Pieces
Ownership, burning, seasons, and trading.
Each piece in Pixie Chess is a token on Base. Owning a piece means it lives in your wallet, shows up in your collection, and is yours to sell or transfer whenever you want.
Using Pieces
Pieces follow the same movement rules as their standard chess counterparts, with an added ability on top. You bring a piece to a match by swapping it onto your board in place of its standard equivalent: a Pixie Rook replaces a standard Rook, a Pixie Bishop replaces a standard Bishop, and so on. You can hold as many pieces as you want and build a collection over time.
Burning
Tournaments require burning one or more pieces to enter. Burning permanently destroys the piece. It is gone from your wallet, gone from circulation, and the burn is recorded permanently on your profile along with the tournament it was used for.
Burning is permanent and non-refundable under any circumstance. Win or lose, the piece does not come back. Players who choose not to enter tournaments retain full, indefinite use of their pieces across all other game modes.

Seasons
Pieces are sold during seasons. Once a season ends, those pieces will never re-enter circulation through auctions or packs. A piece might appear on auction a few times within its season, or only once. After the season closes, the only way to acquire it is through secondary marketplaces, from other players who already own it.
If a piece type gets burned down to zero across all wallets, it ceases to exist entirely.
