Pixie Chess launches April 2
Pixie Chess

How to Play

Rules, turns, draws, and clocks.

Pixie Chess follows standard chess rules as the baseline. Castling, en passant, and pawn promotion work as expected unless a piece ability overrides them. The win condition is the same: put your opponent's King in checkmate.

Before the Game

When a match is found, both players select their pieces from their collection.

Pregame

On Your Turn

Move one piece according to its movement rules. Every Pixie piece is built on a standard chess piece type but has an additional ability. Check the piece encyclopedia in the app to see exactly what each piece does before you use it.

Draws

ConditionDescription
StalemateYour opponent has no legal move and is not in check.
AgreementBoth players agree to draw.
50-move rule50 consecutive moves with no capture or pawn move.
Threefold repetitionThe same position appears three times.
Insufficient materialNeither side has enough pieces to force checkmate.

Clock

Matchup Timer

Each player has their own clock. It counts down on your turn. If time runs out, you lose, unless your opponent does not have enough material to force checkmate, in which case the game ends in a draw. Time controls vary by game mode.

Time controls vary by game mode. Check the game mode details before queuing.

Draw Offers

You can offer a draw at any point during a game. Your opponent can accept or decline. There is a short cooldown between offers.
